Founded in 2001 by Dr. Shalini Gupta with two lasers, the Montgomery, Ohio practice marks a quarter century of cosmetic dermatology care in Greater Cincinnati.

Dr. Shalini Gupta opened the practice in 2001 with two lasers after completing her medical training and returning home to Cincinnati.

From Two Lasers to a Multi-Provider Practice

When the practice opened, most aesthetic procedures were surgical, and cosmetic laser treatment was a smaller field. Several technologies now common in aesthetic practices, including fractional laser resurfacing, noninvasive fat reduction, and energy-based skin tightening, were introduced in the years that followed. The practice expanded its treatment options as those technologies became available.

Today the practice's clinical team includes Dr. Gupta; medical director Dr. Balvant Arora, MD, MBA, a board-certified plastic, reconstructive, and cosmetic surgeon; and board-certified nurse practitioners Lauren Barnhill, MSN, RN, FNP-C, and Sarah Lockwood, MSN, RN, AGACNP-BC. The practice sees patients from across Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and the Dayton area.

"When I opened the practice in 2001, we had two lasers and a very small team," said Dr. Gupta. "The tools have changed a great deal in 25 years. The approach has not. Every patient starts with a careful consultation and a plan built around them."

A Cincinnati Native's Path Back Home

Dr. Gupta graduated from Miami University in two years and received her MD from Harvard Medical School in 1996 with honors. She completed an internship in a combined plastic and general surgery program at Brown University, a photomedicine fellowship at NYU, and dermatology training at the University of Washington before returning to Cincinnati to open her own practice.

Photomedicine, the study of how light interacts with the skin, became the foundation of the practice's early work with lasers and remains part of how treatments are planned today.

"Patients arrive with much more information than they did when we started, and many have already researched a treatment before their first visit," said Dr. Gupta. "Our job is to help them understand which options fit their skin and their goals, and which ones do not."
